The Frog With A Penny

Mythical Chinese money frog that symbolizes good fortune, money and prosperity is not worth any more with a penny in its mouth than the one without a penny.  Even though it is believed to bring good fortune the frog itself does not get to keep the fortune or take it with it wherever it goes.

It's the same with human beings.  Some of us are luckier than others, yet we don't accumulate our luck and we can't take our fortune or any earthly possessions once we retire into the unknown.

And what do we really leave to our children?  The desire to possess, the urge for power and the mess we and the generations before us have created.

I hope that one day our children will see the value in rebuilding the relationship without destroying it, fixing the problem without deleting connections, reconstructing your present without demolishing all those around you.

All of us, like a frog with a penny, with or without possessions, luck, careers, family or connections in the eyes of the universe carry the same worth.  All of us are worth saving in the eyes of God.  As intelligent as we think we are in the eyes of the Universe, Nature and God we are very primitive beings concentrating on the meaningless differences between us and failing to see the big picture of the creation and our place and purpose within it.

Who am I in this abstract of chaos?  Who am I in the eyes of the Universe?  How can I be that Mythical Frog for those around me?  I carry the pain like the frog carries the penny, without desire for the penny or the pain, the frog and I are one and the same, lucky frog for those that believe and an unnecessary object for those that don't.  The frog and I share the same desire: desire to share happiness with all those around us if they would only believe that they can be truly happy with or without a frog, with or without a penny, with or without me and with or without pain.

It seems that the lucky frog of prosperity will have a lot of work to do in the future if we don't change our ideals where famous and infamous have become synonyms.  Our children are seeing the negative deeds described as famous acts of violence with fame being a major component in our children's perspective of success in the present world.

More and more young individuals are committing extreme acts of violence and crimes that we attribute to the dysfunctions of their mental state.  What do we expect from the society raised by videos, clips, overnight millionaires and teenage influencers.  Let's face it - we have made parents so busy that they have no time to raise their children.  More and more we promote working parents and busy kids: too busy to see and enjoy the world the way it is, too busy to stop and enjoy the evening outdoors, too busy to breathe.

Parents are the best advocates for their children.  Parents need to gain back control over the values of our children in the reality of chaos.  One day at a time we can choose to teach our children to forgive, to love, to nurture and to be happy.

To make stronger families we have to keep our families together, we have to advocate DFPS reform to where DFPS and other social service agencies concentrate on in home mental services for the families, not separations.  DFPS agents need to stop being Halloween characters children and parents have nightmares about and become a friend of the family, a shoulder to lean on.  The true purpose of social services is not to punish but to provide an invaluable service otherwise unavailable to the person.

Broken families raise broken individuals.  And it takes a tremendous amount of time and personal growth to rectify damage done by those who mean good without kindness and forgiveness as a main objective in their heart.
